I started this show a year ago and did not get past episode 2. It’s not a bad show, I just don’t have the patience for one hour episodes. Well, I started again this weekend (thank you, peer pressure) and I am intrigued and in love. A few negatives: First, puffy nipples. Yeah, lots of boobs, all shapes and sizes and that’s not a problem…I just would like to see some nice naked male genitalia.
Second: Lead character isn’t visually stunning. However, Nucky (played by Steve Buscemi) does grown on you like a repulsive mole on your face that you eventually start to take pride in. He’s the bad ass that looks like Scarecrow from the Batman Animated series.
Third: Women. I’m only on the third episode, but I feel like I won’t have a favourite female character. I see the whores and none of them are interesting enough to make me care. And I understand that given the time period, there isn’t much to work with (like with Mad Men), but I hope that as the show progresses there will be a kick ass female character.
Now to the positives. Mr. Scorsese proves once again that he is a mastermind when it comes to his craft. The pilot was stunning. Since the show is on season two and still has rave reviews, I’ll just assume that the other directors kept up the good work. Every episode so far has kept me at the edge of my seat. I am in love with the story, the casting, the pace…perfection.
I’ll just keep my fingers crossed for naked men. Maybe Mr. Lucky Luciano will grace us with some nudity soon.
